\u5831\u9053\u30b9\u30c6\u30fc\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3 (Hodo Station \/ News Station) is a news program on the TV Asahi network. I often watch it as one of the few news programs aired at 10 PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What triggered this post was the heavily biased coverage on March 9th. The program opened with roughly 10 minutes on the Iran situation, focusing almost exclusively on the Iranian side and human stories from Turkish interviews. There was virtually nothing about Iran\u2019s missile and drone attacks on the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Israel, or other Gulf states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Newscaster Kensuke Okoshi (\u5927\u8d8a\u5065\u4ecb) concluded the segment with his commentary on the \u201cdifferent concepts of justice.\u201d He stated as fact:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u300c\u4eca\u56de\u3001\u30a2\u30e1\u30ea\u30ab\u3084\u30a4\u30b9\u30e9\u30a8\u30eb\u304c\u30a4\u30e9\u30f3\u306e\u653b\u6483\u306b\u4e00\u65b9\u7684\u306b\u8e0f\u307f\u5207\u3063\u305f\u3053\u3068\u306f\u3001\u56fd\u969b\u6cd5\u306e\u9055\u53cd\u3060\u3068\u3044\u3046\u56fd\u969b\u4e16\u8ad6\u304c\u5727\u5012\u7684\u3067\u3001\u305d\u306e\u610f\u5473\u3067\u306f\u6b63\u7fa9\u3068\u306f\u8a00\u3048\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3002\u300d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(\u201cThe unilateral military action by the US and Israel against Iran is considered a violation of international law by overwhelming international opinion, and therefore cannot be called justice.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He presented this not as his personal view, but as unquestionable reality. In his official postscript published the same day on the TV Asahi website, he went even further:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m very familiar with this style of biased reporting from the New York Times, The Guardian, and the BBC. But I was surprised to see it at this level on Japanese television. Of course media bias has been shaped by two years of conflict, but this specific report felt particularly one-sided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Growing up, I always knew which newspapers leaned left or right. I learned early that I needed to read multiple sources to form my own opinion. During the Cold War, we understood that Soviet media\u2019s job was to distort reality to fit the party line \u2014 yet it was sometimes still useful to read them to understand their perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, when most mainstream media operates with a clear agenda, I wonder if we\u2019re seeing the end of traditional journalism. If I can\u2019t trust journalists to rigorously check facts, challenge assumptions, and present balanced context, who can I trust?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
X (Twitter) is biased. Newspapers are biased. Television is biased. We\u2019re constantly fed information shaped by political views \u2014 and sometimes outright paid propaganda from foreign states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had hoped Japanese news outlets would maintain higher standards, but the March 9th \u5831\u9053\u30b9\u30c6\u30fc\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3 report proved otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Very disappointing. I\u2019ll probably take a break from the show for a while. There\u2019s already more than enough propaganda on the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
