Following up on a previous post, Alvarion Claims 3.5GHz WiMAX Forum Certification:
WiMAX Forum Certification website now features the BreezeMax 3.5GHz (3.4-3.6 10MHz TDD) base station dated Feb. 18th 2009 (while my blog post was on the 17th).
I was surprised a few days ago when Alvarion_Wimax started to follow me on twitter. It appears Alvarion has hired an Internet Marketing company to bring new ideas and methods to Alvarion’s traditional Marketing efforts.
With 7 updates, this is just the beginning, communicating with OM, posting videos on youtube , what will follow?
From the youtube link, it is evident that Alvarion has hired Inclover to manage their web presence. I wonder how effective are these methods in the Wireless Broadband field. Anyway, I think it is a very good idea.
Alvarion has just released plans to deploy Mobile WiMAX in the DRC (Congo).
Not only good news for Alvarion ($4.5 Million contract), but better news for Congo and Africa. Although most Mobile WiMAX investments are seeking the Big Money of Tier 1 Deployments, I love to read a bout WiMAX deployments in Africa and other developing countries.
As much as I will enjoy using UQ Communications WiMAX network in Japan, WiMAX is the perfect technology for deploying Internet and Voice services in developing markets, in places where traditional telephony was never deployed.

Alvarion claims that the BreezeMAX 2500 received WiMAX Forum 3.5GHz Certification.
However, it does not appear in the WiMAX Forum Product Showcase.
I wonder who is responsible to this glitch? Alvarion marketing team or WiMAX Forum Ceritification lab?
Some more information on Nortel exiting Mobile WiMAX business can be found: unstrung, and here.
Nortel and Alvarion are comitted to their customers, but my question is: “Where is the money”?
If a customer already paid Nortel, how can Alvarion guarantee they are getting paid for the effort and equipment.
A week after Airspan published a warning , Alvarion is providing some information, financial and strategic impacts following Nortel’s bankruptcy.
Alvarion now expects a Q4 GAAP net loss of approximately ($4.9) million, or approximately ($0.08) per share, including a restructuring charge of approximately $3.4 million or $0.06 per share for the quarter, related to the cost reduction initiatives announced on December 8, 2008.
As for revenues:
“total revenues for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2008, are expected to be approximately $70 million, at the low end of the Company’s revenue guidance of $70 to $78 million”
Alvarion stock (NASDAQ: ALVR) went down yesterday 5.57% Before this press release.
Alvarion released today that they have signed a contract with VMAX Telecom. According to the PR:
Alvarion to supply more than US$12 million worth of WiMAX equipment and services for the first phase of project.
First, congratulation to Alvarion, but I am a bit baffled as a quick search returned that VMAX Telecom selects Samsung for WiMAX rollout
The contract is for 200 base stations and related equipment and has a valuation of between TWD400 million and TWD500 million (USD12-15 million)
So, who gets these US$12 million?
