iPhone Google+

Maybe apparent from my age, but I remember the times when programmers were working extra time to make sure their application “weight” is minimal.
Either memory consumption or actual binary size (for embedded systems with limited storage).

Was surprised (shocked) to see the new Google+ update is 111MB.
Yes, 111MB of application which shows content from the web.
Not a game, Google+.

I assume it is due to Retina display graphics, but I still think this is not the right way to do it.
Application can get the necessary files after loading, can’t it? Why everyone need to waste storage for unnecessary data ?

Nexus 9

Considered buying a Nexus 9.

I feel that having only iOS devices is limiting and would like to “break out”, or at least try.

 

Now, I can’t really do it if Google are out of stock .

Finally!!! Amazon Kindle in Japan

Almost there…

Finally, Amazon will release Kindle for the Japanese market.
After the Nexus 7 Fiasco, Kindle Fire HD is definitely the first runner up for my new tablet.

Only two small issues/questions:

  • Can I connect my Amazon.com Kindle to Amazon.co.jp?
  • Kindle will be available in November, while Fire HD in December

Phonegap Google Group – Adult Material?

Phonegap is a cross platform mobile framework developed (sponsored) by Nitobi.

Phonegap uses Google groups, and provide a link from their website to the group homepage. For some unknown reason, I was required to authorize accesing adult material.

I wonder, is this a google group glitch or the Phonegap discussions are not only about iPhone/Android and Mobile framework.

Japanese Alliance to Promote Android

Nikkei reports on a new Alliance, the OESF (Open Embedded Software Foundation), to promote the usage of Android for Embedded devices of different kinds, from mobile phone to STB (SetTop Boxes), point of sale terminals and more.

The group consists of a long list of companies, among them: ARM, Fujitsu, Maxxon (for the complete list see here and here).

This is another important step for Android in Japan, as reported earlier in Asiajin , Fujitsu has already started offering Android related consulting services.

Motorola is Hoping for Android and WiMAX Success

VON reports that Motorola is hoping that WiMAX success and new Android bases smartphone will help the telecom giant getting out of the red.

The report also claims that:

The first handsets will debut in the fourth quarter, he (co-CEO Sanjay Jha) noted.

OK, it is time for me to do some thinking:
If first handsets will debut in the fourth quarter, when can we expect to see revenues?
